Originally from a small town in Iowa, Laurel moved to Los Angeles three years ago after earning an MA in Theater from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and teaching, designing, and directing at Dordt College in Iowa. Upon relocating to LA, she resumed her training in the MFA Acting program at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) under such celebrated artists as Mirjana Jokovic, Marissa Chibas, Rafael Lopez-Barrentes, Mira Kingsley, Dwight Bacquie, and Travis Preston.
Aside from performing, Laurel's work in the theater has covered nearly every production role, from scenic painter to director, props artisan to lighting technician. She is also a classically trained vocalist, a folk singer-guitarist, and a visual artist, with painting as her medium of choice.
Most recently, Laurel is enjoying time behind and in front of the camera. She has acted in several short films and is currently directing and acting in an original short. Voice-over work is also a growing interest; Laurel can be heard as the voice of characters in two animated short films and as a narrator in an art installation at CalArts.
